The acting career of Reese Witherspoon began to flourish after she attended Stanford University. She had early successes with films such as Pleasantville, Election and Legally Blonde. But it was her performance in the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde's big-budget smash that truly marked the beginning of her career. Witherspoon went on to win her first Academy Award in 2005 for her role on Walk the Line.
